Terms of Service

These Terms govern your use of altification.ai and the ALTification WordPress plugin (together, “the Service”), operated by A Fine Studio, United Kingdom.

1. The Service

ALTification provides AI-generated alt text, captions and descriptions for images on WordPress sites. Generation is performed by Anthropic’s Claude AI model on our behalf. You are responsible for reviewing generated content before publishing it.

2. Your account

You must provide accurate registration information and keep your password and API keys confidential. You are responsible for activity on your account. Notify us immediately if you suspect unauthorised access.

Each ALTification API key is locked to the first WordPress site it is used on. To use the Service on multiple sites, generate a separate key for each.

3. Acceptable use

You agree not to:

  • Use the Service for content that is illegal, defamatory, infringes others’ rights, or depicts child sexual abuse material
  • Attempt to reverse-engineer, scrape or abuse the API beyond your purchased credits
  • Resell, sublicense or share your API key
  • Use the Service to generate content that violates Anthropic’s Acceptable Use Policy (anthropic.com/legal/aup)

We may suspend or terminate accounts that breach these terms.

4. Credits, billing and refunds

The Service uses a credit system. One credit covers one generation (with up to three credits per image if you generate alt text, caption and description together).

Credits are sold as one-time packs or as monthly subscriptions through Lemon Squeezy. Subscription credits reset monthly and do not roll over beyond the published cap. One-time credit packs do not expire.

Payments are taken in the currency shown at checkout. Subscriptions renew automatically until cancelled from your dashboard.

Because credits can be used immediately, we do not offer refunds on credits that have been spent. If you believe a credit was deducted in error, contact support@altification.ai within 14 days and we will investigate.

For statutory cancellation rights under UK consumer law, you may cancel a subscription within 14 days of purchase for a full refund provided no credits from that billing period have been used. Once you begin using the Service, you are agreeing that the digital service has been delivered and your right to withdraw is waived for the credits already consumed.

5. Merchant of Record

Purchases made on altification.ai are processed by Lemon Squeezy (Lemon Squeezy LLC, a US company), who acts as the Merchant of Record. This means Lemon Squeezy is the legal seller for your purchase and handles payment processing, billing, sales tax and VAT compliance, and invoicing. Lemon Squeezy’s terms apply to the payment transaction itself, alongside these Terms which govern your use of the Service.

6. Generated content

You retain ownership of the images you submit. You also own the text the Service generates from your inputs, subject to Anthropic’s terms.

The Service uses an AI model. Output may occasionally be inaccurate, biased or unsuitable. Alt text in particular is a critical accessibility feature, and you remain responsible for reviewing it for accuracy and appropriateness before publishing. ALTification does not guarantee that generated alt text meets any specific accessibility standard (e.g. WCAG) without human review.

7. Service availability

We aim to keep the Service available but do not guarantee uninterrupted access. We may perform maintenance, change features, or restrict access where necessary for security or legal reasons. We will give reasonable notice of material changes where practical.

8. Disclaimers and liability

The Service is provided “as is”. To the fullest extent permitted by law, we exclude all implied warranties.

Nothing in these Terms limits our liability for death, personal injury caused by negligence, fraud, or any other liability that cannot be excluded under English law.

Subject to the above, our total liability to you in any 12-month period is limited to the greater of (a) the fees you paid to us in that period, or (b) £100. We are not liable for indirect or consequential losses, including lost profits, lost data, or reputational harm.

9. Termination

You may delete your account at any time from your dashboard. We may suspend or terminate your account if you breach these Terms or if your account is inactive for an extended period. On termination, your API keys stop working and your account data is deleted in line with our Privacy Policy.

10. Changes to these Terms

We may update these Terms occasionally. Material changes will be notified by email to active accounts at least 14 days before they take effect. Continued use of the Service after the effective date means you accept the updated Terms.

11. Governing law

These Terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales. Disputes are subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of England and Wales, except where mandatory consumer law gives you a right to bring proceedings in your country of residence.
